LCTS is recognised nationwide for its commitment to delivering high-quality training.
We offer a range of digital, on-road and workshop-based training courses. These popular courses are designed with the principle that they should be both informative and enjoyable.
All our training works on the premise that it should be enjoyable as well as informative!
Information on each course can be found below:
This is required for all drivers and consists of 8 online theory modules followed by a short multiple choice theory assessment.
This is only required by drivers who need to use a passenger lift on the vehicle, assist passengers with mobility difficulties and/or secure passengers in Wheelchair Tie-Down & Occupant Restraint Systems (W.T.O.R.S.)
The training is a hybrid blend of online and F2F training, delivered in small groups.
This is a two-part session, delivered on a 1:1 basis, with each element lasting approximately 45 minutes.
A practical session tailored to the driver’s needs and ability. Providing drivers with an opportunity to ask any questions they have based on their online course and have some practice driving.
A driving assessment where drivers will be required to demonstrate that they can drive the minibus safely, legally, and comfortably at all times.
Those obtaining an Accessible certificate will also be assessed on their competence in using the W.T.O.R.S. equipment at the end of their driving assessment.
Drivers who only require the standard MiDAS certificate and have sat the D1 test with the DLVA are not required to attend a practical session.
Drivers who successfully complete the MiDAS assessment and training session(s) will receive a nationally recognised certificate and have their name entered on the MiDAS register of drivers.
MiDAS certificates are valid for four years, after which refresher training is required.
Booking MiDAS Training & Costs:
To be eligible for MiDAS Training, you must be over the age of 21 and have held a driving licence for more than 2 years.
MiDAS training enquiries can be sent to info@lcts.org.uk or contact our office.
DA registration is also dependent on satisfactory completion of a MiDAS Driving Assessment and an appraisal of competence in conducting an on-road driving assessment for drivers.
Courses are generally run quarterly and course dates, along with availability and cost, are available by emailing training@lcts.org.uk.
Whilst the majority of courses are run at our offices in Edinburgh, we can run DA courses on-site and regularly deliver training throughout the UK, subject to minimum numbers.

The AVERAGE driver requires approximately four half-day sessions to reach test standard –
some drivers require more than this (and some less!).
An estimate of on-road training required is given after a short assessment drive (assessment is free of charge).
We recommend two drivers per half-day training session wherever possible – this minimises cost and maximises learning opportunity. We will take up to three drivers per session, although this significantly limits driving time for each person.
The nearest Test Centres are Livingston, Berwick-upon-Tweed or Perth.
There’s an additional charge for vehicle hire to use our minibus for test.
If you’re using your own vehicle for training and testing purposes, it MUST meet the following requirements:
Some minibus drivers may also require CPC Modules 2 & 4 in order to obtain a Driver Qualification Card (CPC) where they intend to drive professionally.
We can also provide CPC training – please contact us if you require more information.
Is relevant to volunteers as well as paid staff and covers legal, practical and safety issues – it aims to improve passenger safety by providing the skills and information for Passenger Assistants to understand and meet the needs of their passengers
There are various PATS modules:
The Role of the Passenger Assistant
This is the compulsory “foundation” module which is a starting point for further training. It covers the role and responsibilities of a passenger assistant, including legal, practical and safety issues such as emergency procedures.
Passenger Awareness and Assistance
This module is intended for passenger assistants whose duties involve assisting passengers with disabilities, including wheelchair users but does not cover wheelchair users who travel in their wheelchairs. It contains information on professional etiquette, assisting passengers with walking difficulties, passengers who are blind or partially sighted, passengers who are deaf or hard of hearing and passengers who may use wheelchairs to get to the vehicle.
Assisting Passengers who travel in their Wheelchairs
This module is intended for passenger assistants whose duties include assisting passengers who travel in their wheelchairs. It looks at safe use of passenger lifts and wheelchair tie-down and occupant restraint systems (W.T.O.R.S.) and all the issues surrounding wheelchair user safety on vehicles. This module contains a practical skills’ assessment, which passenger assistants must pass in order to receive a certificate.
Supervising Children and Young People with Additional Needs
This includes information on supervising children and young people with learning difficulties, Autistic Spectrum Disorder, physical disabilities, sensory restrictions and emotional or behavioural difficulties.
Working with Adults Who Require Care and Supervision
This relates to adult passengers with learning difficulties and dementia.
