FAQ

Q: Who can hire a minibus from LCTS?

Minibus hire is available to not-for-profit organisations, including community groups, charities, and voluntary services. Groups must register with LCTS, and drivers must meet licence and training requirements.

Yes – if you passed your test before 1 January 1997, you likely have D1 entitlement and can drive any LCTS minibus. If you passed after that date, you may drive certain lighter minibuses (≤3,500 kg, or ≤4,250 kg if adapted) on your Category B licence, if you are 21+, have 2+ years’ driving experience, and are driving voluntarily for a non-commercial body.

Yes – all LCTS minibus drivers must have a valid MiDAS certificate.
MiDAS is an assessment and training scheme for minibus drivers in the voluntary and not-for-profit sectors. If you don’t already have it, LCTS can provide the training.

Yes – there are no strict restrictions on where you can take an LCTS minibus. However, the hire is charged per mile, so costs will increase with longer journeys. It is best to check with the LCTS office in advance to get guidance on pricing and any other considerations for your trip.
